Madrigal: Epitaphium Poliae
for choir SSAATTBB
2012
4 minutes
The text is the final words from the extraordinary quattrocento Italian humanist fantasy and love story, the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili, published anonymously in 1499 and attributed to Leon Battista Alberti or Francesco Colonna. The words are from the epitaph of Polia, the protagonist Poliphili’s object of love, who has passed away without ever requiting his affections.
